Today in Monsters: The Devil Bird of Sri Lanka

In our ongoing series about obscure cryptids (aka “wildly implausible creatures”), we came across a mythic bird known by the inhabitants of Sri Lanka as Ulana, or Devil Bird.

This legendary allegedly-satanic bird was said to have a strange cry that foretold of death, but even more amazing is the fact that the Devil Bird has been (for all tents and porpoises) identified!

Yes, an intensive investigation revealed that the Ulana closely matched the Spot-Bellied Eagle Owl, which has an eerie, “human-like” call.

It’s not often we get to say “Case Closed” in the Monsters category!
